COVID-19 was a challenge that many Surgical Technology Programs had to overcome so that the learners were still able to gain experience and hours while studying from home. Northwestern Michigan College was one of those schools that had to find solutions quickly. The Surgical Technology Program Coordinator, April Kesler, was looking to purchase something that Above: Northwestern Michigan College Campus. 3 Northwestern Michigan College would help with lab sessions when she came across PeriopSim. She recognized it from when it was brought up before in the Surgical Technology Instructor group on Facebook and decided to look into it further.

This last week has been intense and we've been grappling with are we just a distraction or can we be more helpful over the next 3 months? During the past week, and over the weekend, we have had many conversations with Clinical Educators, Directors and Instructors at Surgical Technology programs across the US as well as at Perioperative Programs and Electives at Nursing Schools across Canada and the US. After hearing their challenges and based on their feedback we have come up with two areas we think we should divert resources towards to increase the usefulness of PeriopSim at this time:

On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, PeriopSim was featured in Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundations kick off of the Gown up Campaign to revitalize 10 Operating Rooms. PeriopSim iPad and VR is part of the curriculum for new Perioperative RN Orientation training. A innovation project funded by the Surrey Hospital Foundation with a goal to improve patient outcomes and retain newly trained OR Nurses.
