We had the privilege of conversing with Alvin Lawson, CSFA, Surgical Services Education Coordinator, and Perioperative Educator at Lake Regional Health System. With a remarkable background in surgical technology dating back to 1991 and certification as a Surgical First Assistant in 2002, Alvin is at the forefront of surgical education.

We had the opportunity to speak with Jackie Phaneuf, MSN-Ed, RN, CNOR, OR Clinical Educator, to delve into the successful integration of PeriopSim into OR curricula at her facility in Washington DC, USA. Jackie shared her valuable insights into how she effectively incorporated PeriopSim.

In the world of surgical technology education, simulation has become a popular tool for preparing students for the operating room environment. However, with the onset of COVID-19, simulation has become even more important as traditional hands-on training has been limited. That's where PeriopSim comes in.

Boston Children's Hospital's Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) wanted to expand its capacity to train new surgical scrub personnel through simulation.  After reviewing the adult modules in PeriopSim, they saw the value of the approach—scrub trainees could memorize instruments and learn procedures without burdening instructors, OR space, or equipment.

We sat down and asked Educator Jessica Reed from Indianapolis, Indiana a few questions and this is what she had to say.  

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing students signed up for the Perioperative Elective at the University of Houston were unsure if the class was going to go on. They waited patiently while the administration were busy working to understand the impact across the board for their students as well as the faculty for all the classes being offered.

Since it's the end of the year I want to summarize some of what we've been able to accomplish this year in collaboration with amazing surgical services staff that we met along the way; guided by our advisors, partners, and investors; delivered by exceptional efforts of the talented team we have and of course supported by a crowd in the background that it takes for a company like ours to provide value and be successful.
